Beat Bangaz is a Cape Town–rooted DJ collective and cultural force comprised of Grandmaster DJ Ready D, DJ E20, and DJ Azuhl — three generations of selectors, united by a shared commitment to hip hop culture, musical excellence, and community impact.

Formed as both a performance outfit and a movement, Beat Bangaz represents the intersection of legacy and evolution. Since its inception in 1999, the collective has expanded beyond DJing into music production and remixing, consistently releasing music that reflects their diverse influences and deep-rooted connection to the culture. Their work has seen them represent South Africa on international stages, as well as contribute to panels and seminars, sharing knowledge and perspective on DJ culture and the global music landscape.

At the helm is Grandmaster DJ Ready D, widely regarded as one of the pioneers of hip hop DJing in South Africa. As a founding member of the legendary group Prophets of Da City, his contributions helped lay the foundation for the country’s hip hop movement. His career spans decades of influence across radio, live performance, and cultural activism, making him a respected authority both locally and internationally.

DJ E20 is also one of the founding members of the iconic South African band Brasse Vannie Kaap, contributing to a legacy that helped define Cape Flats storytelling and Afrikaans hip hop identity. His journey reflects a deep commitment to music, mentorship, and cultural preservation, with years of experience across radio, live platforms, and community-driven initiatives. Extending that legacy into the next generation, his son Malik — also known as DJ Eminor — has officially joined Beat Bangaz in his teens, marking a powerful continuation of the culture through lineage and lived experience.

DJ Azuhl represents the next wave — a DJ, curator, and educator whose work bridges traditional DJ craft with digital innovation. Through mixes, remixes, livestreams, and visual content, he has built a multifaceted platform that extends from live spaces to online audiences, while also contributing to DJ development through structured learning initiatives.

What sets Beat Bangaz apart is their live experience. Their sets are a seamless fusion of styles — spanning hip hop, funk, soul, jazz, and beyond — reflecting a deep respect for musical diversity. It’s a rare and captivating sight to witness three DJs perform as one, moving in sync, trading energy, and building a journey collectively behind the decks. This unique dynamic is not only present on stage, but also embedded in their curated showcases and DJ mixes, where collaboration and chemistry take centre stage.

Collectively, Beat Bangaz has built a reputation that extends across media, television, and radio. Their members have been featured on leading South African radio stations, contributed to televised music programming, and curated content that showcases DJ culture in both mainstream and alternative spaces. From festival stages to broadcast platforms, their presence reflects both credibility and cultural relevance.

Beyond accolades, Beat Bangaz stands as a symbol of continuity — linking the origins of South African hip hop with its future. Their work is rooted in skill, authenticity, and a responsibility to the culture, ensuring that the art of DJing remains both respected and reimagined for generations to come.
